Palace Grand Hotel is looking forward to welcoming you to experience Varese during one of the most enchanting times of the year.

Known for its light shows, which have long boasted a great number of visitors among tourists and locals alike, in December the city dives into the Christmas spirit.

The first events are set for Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 December with the “Natale al Castello” at the Visconti Castle of Somma Lombardo: a Christmas market featuring all the local specialities, including handicrafts and Christmas delicacies.

 

For shopping enthusiasts, we also recommend the renowned Christmas market in the park of the Monastery of Santa Maria Assunta in Cairate, where for the first three Sundays of the month km0 products, handicraft items and much more can be purchased.

 

Among the most eagerly awaited events, the Giardino dell’Incanto (‘Garden of Enchantment’) will kick off on 8 December and enliven the Palazzo Estense and its Gardens. This is a unique light show, curated by Studio Festi, an international art company founded in the Varese area.

 

Luminaries, light structures and artistic installations with state-of-the-art LED lamps will create a setting that will adorn the 18th-century garden for more than a month, until 17 January.

 

The installations, inspired by the great 18th-century festive decorations of Europe’s most important courts, will be complemented by the Racconti d’Inverno (‘Winter Tales’) project, in which artists and children work side by side in the creation of comic stories that will decorate the Palace.

 

For those who prefer to immerse themselves in the art and history of the city, the Sacro Monte of Varese is not to be missed. From 8 December until 9 January, in the crypt of the Sanctuary of Santa Maria, visitors will have the opportunity to admire the site’s oldest ‘Nativity’, with frescoes dating from between the 13th and 15th centuries.

 

If your choice is to start the New Year with us, Piazza Monte Grappa is the ideal place to celebrate the coming year in good company: our Christmas village, with its bright lights and its enchanting, decorated tree will be the setting for your New Year’s toast.

 

December events are not lacking at the Palace Grand Hotel either, delighting you with evenings marked by wellness and taste. At our Liberty-style restaurant, the Sapori di Stagione (‘Seasonal Flavours’) weekends continue, featuring a refined and skilful preparation of ingredients that reach their fullest culinary potential in the winter season. The Bar Belle Époque will be pleased to welcome you for convivial moments with its Christmas Afternoon Tea, and to delightful Happy Hours with Champagne and Cocktails.

 

Great events come to life during the festive season: don’t miss the exchange of good wishes on 21 December, with the hotel elegantly decked out in twinkling lights, our Christmas Lunch with a dedicated menu, and the New Year’s Eve Grand Gala, to kick off the New Year in style.
